“Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.”
Psalm 119:98
To be wiser than your enemies, keep the commandments of the Lord. There’s a lot of “wisdom” present in the world today, and even the Bible tells us to be “gentle as doves, and wise as serpents.” Even more, Jesus said that the children of darkness are in their generation wiser than the children of light (Luke 16:8).
That tells us that there is a very high possibility that the “wisdom” of the world is able to give them results that provides an edge for them. But does that mean we should adopt their brand of wisdom? Of course not! While we can acknowledge that there is something like “ungodly wisdom” (James 3:15) that actually produces certain results, we also know that the only way to make the wisdom of the world foolish is to walk according to the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:25).
So, follow God. Do not concern yourself with the rewards of the wicked (the worldly wise ones). Focus only on following the commandments of God, because it is only God who is able to make the “wisdom” of men foolishness. Let it be that when the wisdom you apply is tested, it is found to be actually wisdom and not foolishness in God’s sight.
Charge: The only true way to be wise is through God.
