But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

1 Corinthians 9:27

It is so vital to always remember that our souls are the first and major concern God has. Knowing this, therefore, we must ensure our souls and relationship with God is constantly healthy. Lest that by any means, when we have preached to others, we ourselves should then be castaways. God forbid!

Even as we walk with God in the rescue of perishing souls, don’t be so dead to the Spirit’s call for personal fellowship. Don’t fail to continually soak yourself in the Word of God—not because you want to have a word to give others—so that you can know the Lord even more.

Bring your body under subjection. Establish rules that ensure you are not exposed unnecessarily to what is not of God, because things like that eat away at our convictions and result in mixtures. Do not play with anything that looks remotely like darkness, beware of mixtures: things that look good but have questionable origins, processes, or results. Sharpen your discernment continually.

Remember! You cannot afford to be a castaway!

Prayer

Father, I ask that you keep me from falling and that you expose everything in my life that gives any sort of entrance to darkness. Please, save me from myself! Save me from any form of arrogance that lets me think I am standing when in reality I am falling. You’re my help, Lord. Please don’t forsake me.
