“Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David”.

Isaiah 55:3

From the scripture above, there are two distinct instructions we must pay keen attention to: “Incline your ear” and “Come unto me”. None is less important than the other. In other words, God is saying in that verse that we should actively pay attention or listen to Him. But not just that, He wants us to make a conscious effort to draw near to Him as we listen. This is how an effective communication is achieved—drawing near with our heart and ears.

However, many of us Christians approach God with our desires and heartfelt prayers, but often we lack the patience to listen to Him in return. The scriptures teach us that when we come to God and truly listen, we will find life.

Communication with God is a two-way process. When we seek Him, we communicate our needs and desires, but it is equally important for us to listen to Him. In Him alone can we find true life.

Unfortunately, we often become so accustomed to our prayer time, devotions, studies, and even church services that they become mere routines. We go through the motions without truly listening to God. We treat our services as sacrifices rather than moments of communion. We need to recognise that God is always willing to speak to us, but are we ready to listen?

If you have been bringing our pain, sorrow, burdens, or long-standing issues to God without finding resolution, let me remind you today to not only go to Him but also to listen attentively. Incline your ears to His voice, and you will discover abundant solutions and experience a renewal of life. Every burden will be lifted, and even you will feel the difference between a routined prayer life and communion with God.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I humbly submit myself to You and open my ears to listen to Your guidance and instructions in every season of my life. May Your name be praised. Amen.
