“And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.”
Exodus 14:11-12
In these verses, we witness how the children of Israel lamented and questioned Moses for leading them out of Egypt. When they saw their pursuers approaching, fear overcame them, and they instantly regretted Moses’ intervention. Exodus 14:10 states, “And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.”
As Christians, it is crucial to remain sensitive to every situation in our lives. We must discern when it is God sending help and when the enemy is trying to torment us. God led the children of Israel through the Red Sea to defeat their enemies, foreseeing that the Egyptians would take an alternate route by land. The Israelites had no knowledge that God would part the sea for them.
However, upon reaching the Red Sea, the Israelites began complaining and expressing their desire to remain in the suffering they knew in Egypt. They preferred their old lives of pain and agony over facing another challenge on their path to success.
Take a moment to reflect, beloved. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you believed God was leading you, but everything started to feel as if God had brought you there for your enemies to mock you? Has God ever guided you through an impossible path, akin to the Israelites crossing the Red Sea?
One thing you must never forget, no matter the situation, is that God does not bring you this far to leave you stranded. Never! Sometimes, the escape may be just a few miles away, and you might find yourself wishing to return to your previous challenges. God is not a magician; He works at the best pace, even if it means waiting a little longer. During those extra waiting times, never long to return to your “Egypt,” as it signifies ingratitude. Instead, remain sensitive to God’s leading and be grateful for each step.
Prayer
1. O Lord, help me cease my grumbling while You are busy trying to save me.
2. Father, please, open my inner eyes to discern and distinguish between Your ways and the enemy’s.
3. Lord, please prevent me from returning to my past ways, like a dog returning to its vomit, in Jesus’ name.
