“Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; And deceive not with thy lips. Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.”
Proverbs 24:28-29
Of late, our world has, with an open hand, embraced the idea of “giving people a taste of their own medicine.” Revenge is seen as justice, and deception is often a tool for survival. But the Word of God calls us to a higher standard—one rooted in truth, mercy, and divine justice.
The Bible warns against becoming a false witness. Lies, even when told in retaliation, do not serve righteousness. God hates a lying tongue (Proverbs 6:17) and delights in those who walk uprightly. More so, taking matters of vengeance into our hands only reveals our lack of trust in God’s ability to judge righteously.
Jesus modelled forgiveness. On the cross, He forgave those who mocked and crucified Him. That is our standard. We are not called to mirror the actions of those who wrong us but to reflect Christ in all we do. Revenge may seem satisfying momentarily, but eventually, it leaves a trail of bitterness and brokenness. When we surrender our hurt to Him, we find healing, peace, and restoration.
Charge: Let God fight your battles. His justice is perfect, and His timing is flawless. Choose mercy over malice and truth over lies. Let God be your Defender.
