“But speaking the truth in love, we may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:15.
Truth and love are inseparable in the life of a believer. Speaking truth without love can wound, while love without truth leads to compromise. God calls us to a balance: truth delivered with compassion.
Jesus exemplified this balance when He confronted sin. He did so with grace to the woman caught in adultery. He said, “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more” (John 8:11). He did not ignore the truth about her sin, but He addressed it in love, offering her a new path. Many believers struggle with this balance. Some avoid speaking the truth to prevent offence, while others speak harshly, causing harm. Yet, truth spoken in love brings growth and transformation. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
When correcting, encouraging, or teaching, our words should reflect the heart of Christ. Love should be the motivation behind every truth we share. Words can build or break, heal or harm. So, before speaking, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it spoken in love? Let your words be seasoned with grace, leading others toward righteousness.
Charge: Speak the truth with wisdom and love. Let your words reflect Christ’s character, guiding others toward growth and maturity in Him.
