“Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.”
Hosea 10:2
Many times, the scriptures have exposed to us the dangers of a divided heart—a heart not true to God. The account of how the Israelites treated God after being brought out of Egypt gives us a good case study, and we read how God gave them into the hands of their enemies at different times.
God does not want this for you and me. But God will not accept a man who is double-minded in all his ways (James 1:8). God specializes in the heart, and He will have all of our hearts or none at all. One of the dangers of a divided heart is the corruption that it brings to our entire fellowship with God. We cannot proclaim love and devotion to God and still desire to pursue the lust of the eyes, flesh, and pride of life—divided heart.
Another danger of a divided heart is the miserable and frustrated life you will condemn yourself to. Just as Jesus has said: “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” (Mark 3:25). With a divided heart, you are instantly susceptible to failure and breakdown in your spiritual life, relationships, and every other area of your life because you’ve automatically given the enemy something of himself to find in you.
Charge: Keep your heart fixed on Jesus.
