“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, And thy want as an armed man.”

Proverbs 6:10-11

Many things we think aren’t in our control actually are. And that’s why the Bible goes straight to the point when addressing the sluggard. “How long will thou sleep?” “How long will you pile up the things you are meant to do, and say ‘later’?”

The excellence we have as children of God demands a level of dedication and discipline to achieve. While not easy, it is something that must be done, else we might never unveil the full potentials resident in our being.

The concept of sleep here – inattentiveness, prayerlessness, laziness, indiscipline, love of pleasure, etc, is the reason why many remain bound despite the gifts our Father has deposited within us.

And it is something you must fight to achieve. Don’t accept a life that tells you it’s okay to settle for less. Rather, stand up and make a move towards strengthening your discipline and doing the right thing. If you need to find accountability with someone, find it. If you need to keep yourself in check by setting goals, and making a list of things you should do, do that. Just ensure you are on the move to attaining excellence.

Charge: Do everything you can to rise from that slump you’re in. There’s more in store for you.
