“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

1 Timothy 2:1-2

There is a measure of responsibility that has been placed on you as a Christian for the territory you find yourself. That responsibility often translates to a duty to obey the governing authority of that territory, and to pray for the good of the land.

Here’s a fact: this duty that every Christian is expected to partake isn’t limited to when things are rosy in the nation. It isn’t limited to when they have good and responsible leaders. Rather, it is an unconditional commandment. In other words, whether things are bad and only seem to be getting worse, or things are good, you are expected to speak only life – the Word of God – and make positive proclamations over your country and those in authorities.

It is not enough to complain or be unsettled over matters in your country. Take it constantly to the Lord in prayer. Stand in the gap for your leaders, speak over the four corners of your country. Take your place in standing watch – this, is the duty of a true Christian.

Charge: Stand in the gap, and be the example of how to do the right thing.
