“But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind: and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.”
Luke 14:13-14
What is your motive for giving or being nice to others? Do you give to others simply because you are expecting something in return?
In today’s devotion, Jesus admonishes us in Luke 14:13-14 to give with the right motive and intention, by giving and showing kindness to those who cannot repay us or reciprocate our kindness and giving, without expecting anything in return. When we give rightly to people without expectation, we reflect the selfless love of God.
This scripture teaches us the importance of giving with the right motive. It also reveals that there are blessings as well as rewards that await us at resurrection, when we show selfless love to others and give to others with a pure heart. Looking for recognition and reward for our kindness to others does not reflect the life of Christ.
We need to trust God to help us learn how to give sacrificially without any expectation and look for ways to be a blessing to others especially those that can never repay us back.
Let your giving reflect the selfless love of Christ.
