SETTING OUR AFFECTION ON THINGS ABOVE

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:1-2

“If ye then be risen with Christ,” signifies that as born-again believers in Christ, we share in His crucifixion and resurrection. As a result, we have a boldness and confidence that aligns us with Christ’s nature. Hence, our focus should be on heavenly things, seeking God’s kingdom and His righteousness above all else.

As ambassadors of Christ, who truly share in His crucifixion and resurrection, our lives should reflect His will and purpose. Sadly, many Christians today prioritise earthly treasures and ambitions, neglecting God’s kingdom in the process. Nevertheless, God urges us to seek His kingdom first, promising to provide for our needs when we put Him first.

To truly live as risen with Christ, we must prioritise Him in all aspects of life, trusting Him to fulfil our desires in ways that bring glory to His name. Surrendering our aspirations to God and allowing Him to lead us will align our hearts with His divine purpose.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I surrender my desires and aspirations to you today. I ask that you lead me on the right path and direct my steps. Help me set my affections on things above, not earthly things. May my life be a reflection of your will and purpose. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
