THE SECRET OF REST

For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

Hebrews 4:10

A book I was reading today told of how important it is to lay all our cares on the Lord, and just rest.

However, this can be one of the hardest things for a person to do. How do we turn our minds off from all the worries that beset us? How do we stop thinking of all the things we have to do? How do we just stop worrying and carry our burdens to Jesus?

But here is the truth. As near impossible as this sounds, it is true. Jesus said, come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. This proves that it is not something that is out of reach, especially for us as Christians. It is very possible. The only thing we must learn is to come into the presence of God, let go of everything, and just lean on Him.

God is more impressed by the one who learns to lean on Him for everything than by the one who constantly strives. Learn to cease from your own works, dear Christian. Rely on the provision of Rest in Christ.

I’ll share a part of the book with you.

The understanding that spending time in His presence does not diminish our productivity in life, but rather becomes the wellspring from which flows Spirit-empowered effectiveness and fruitfulness. His presence is the only abode of true rest.”

Prayer

1. Lord, help me to learn how to lean completely on you.

2. Be my guide, Lord. Lead me over and over to the secret place where I find rest. Teach me to cometo a place of total rest in you.

3. Pray for those suffering from depression that the Lord will visit and hold them closely. That their eyes may be opened to see the salvation and love of God for them in Jesus’ name.
