“To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
Isaiah 61:3

The phrase “garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness” teaches us that praise is not only reserved for times when we are happy or overjoyed by something we have received. It is also a means of accessing joy and enthroning God in the midst of turbulent and stormy seas.

Praise is a way of telling the devil that, despite the arrows he is throwing at us, we know in whom we have believed, and that God deserves all the praise. It is an assertion of the knowledge we have of the victory we have in Christ, and a language that confuses the camp of the enemy.

Dear fellow Christians, I urge you that in times when you have lost your words and are unsure of what to say, to “Praise God.” Deliberately rise, dance, jump, and shout a thousand hallelujahs. Praise is not just coming to say good words to God, for He already knows that He is all that. The beauty of praise is that it is a recognition of who He is.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, you are deserving of all praise. You are worthy of all glory and honor, and you have the victory. Please help me to come to a true understanding of this fact and to lay down all heaviness in praise of your holy name. I ask that you open my eyes to recognize your essence so that I may praise you from a place of assurance and victory. Even when I don’t feel like it, help me to praise you. In your precious name, I pray. Amen.
