“For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.”

Jeremiah 2:13

The folly of abandoning God is a tragic reality that has plagued humanity for centuries. From today’s Scripture, we read about how God laments the dual evil of forsaking Him, the source of living waters, and seeking satisfaction in broken, empty alternatives.

God is the fountain of life, the source of true fulfilment and satisfaction. Yet, we often abandon Him, chasing after fleeting pleasures, wealth, and power — broken cisterns that can hold no water. This folly leads to spiritual drought, emptiness, and despair.

Let us not be deceived: abandoning God leads to ruin. Instead, let us return to the Fountain of Life, embracing His love, wisdom, and redemption. For in Him alone can we find true satisfaction and purpose.

Charge: God’s message through Jeremiah is an invitation to return to Him, the Fountain of Living Waters. He promises renewal, restoration, satisfaction, fulfilment, guidance, and wisdom.
