“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses”.
1 Timothy 6: 11-12
The first instruction given to us by the scripture for today is to “flee”. To flee can also mean to run away, avoid, abstain, reject, and stay away from any appearances of evil. To live as Christ lived, a child of God must turn away from every form of evil.
Our obedience to God’s instruction in today’s scripture leads us to the next phase which is to follow after righteousness. The purpose of God’s calling to every believer is to live rightly as portrayed by Jesus Christ. God has called us unto righteousness and this can be further explained in the book of Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
O man of God, you have been called unto righteousness which is your first calling as a believer in Christ. We are encouraged to live rightly as God’s representative of righteousness everywhere and every day. May we be helped by the Holy Spirit to represent Christ’s righteousness in this world. (Amen)
