“But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?”

Luke 12:20

In today’s message, God will be revealing an important truth that we, as Christians, must always remind ourselves of. We cannot continue living in this world as if we are its principal owners. Our lives, giftings, careers, children, and everything else we believe we’ve accumulated and accomplished are not truly ours.

God has placed us in this garden of life, just as He did with Adam, and we are responsible for living a life that glorifies and praises Him. We are caretakers, not just living for ourselves, but using what God has given us to fulfill the work He has commissioned us to do as His children. We should strive to achieve great things in the world but must not be carried away by the things of the world.

God is counting on us. We can see this in the parable of the rich fool, who was so sure of his possessions, but whose soul was requested from him by the Landlord. God warns that it will be the same for anyone who lays up treasures for themselves and is not rich towards Him.

One day, God will ask us to give an account of how we lived on earth, and we will be asked to give an account of how we cared for our children, talents, opportunities, calling, and all else that God has bestowed upon us.

We must awaken to the fact that we are nothing but strangers and sojourners in this world, as Leviticus 25:23 puts it. This life is not ours; it belongs to God.

As Psalm 103:15-16 states, our days are like grass and the wind passes over them, and we are gone, and our place remembers us no more.

We are the caretakers, and God is the Landlord. Our life is a gift that we must use to glorify Him. As Ezekiel 18:4 says, all souls are God’s, and we must repent and turn to the Lord, asking for mercy and grace to live an upright life.

Shalom!

Prayer

Let’s go on our knees and rededicate our lives to Him, not looking back but walking as His children. Let us cry out to the Lord for help, and may He answer our prayers in Jesus’ name.
