“A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.”
Isaiah 60:22
A man planted a bamboo tree and watered it faithfully. For one year, nothing happened. Two years passed, still nothing. By the third and fourth years, there was no visible sign of growth, and those around him began to mock his persistence. Yet he continued to water the soil, unaware that beneath the ground, the bamboo was developing an extensive root system. Then, in the fifth year, the bamboo suddenly shot up, growing rapidly within a short period. What looked like sudden growth was actually the result of years of unseen preparation.
The bamboo tree teaches us that God’s work often begins in hidden places. Seasons where nothing seems to be happening are not wasted seasons; they are foundational ones. During such times, God is strengthening roots — building character, deepening faith, and expanding capacity. Isaiah 60:22 reminds us that what starts as “a little one” does not remain small forever. Growth delayed is not growth denied; it is growth reserved for the right moment.
Do not despise your hidden season or mistake silence for stagnation. Waiting is not wasted time in God’s economy. Our responsibility is to remain rooted; faithful in prayer, obedience, and trust, while God works beneath the surface. When the appointed time arrives, growth will not be forced; it will be hastened by the Lord Himself. In His time, what He has planted will rise.
Charge: If God has planted it, keep watering. If He spoke it, stay rooted. When the time comes, what took years in secret will rise in public, quickly, firmly, and undeniably. In His time, He will hasten it.
