And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
Matthew 14:15
People often retreat or avoid situations that are beyond their control. This is why we must always depend on the God of all possibilities; without Him, we can do nothing.
How do we respond to pressures, challenges, or trials of our faith? In today’s scripture, we read that the disciples decided to send away the crowd. They chose to dismiss them because it was evening, and the people needed to eat. However, further reading reveals that Jesus said, “They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat.” The disciples’ response to Jesus showed that they yielded to the pressures of time and limited resources.
The disciples looked at the crowd and gave in to fear because they felt their present capacity could not handle such a large number of people. Jesus, however, looked at what they had and saw more than enough to meet everyone’s immediate need. Situations that seem impossible to you are entirely possible when God is in view.
