“Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law.”

Psalm 94:12

In this verse, the Psalmist declares that those who are disciplined by the Lord are truly blessed, but what does it mean to be disciplined by God? Being disciplined by God means experiencing His correction, guidance, and training to shape us into His likeness.

God’s discipline is not punishment; it’s  rather a means of refining and perfecting us. Just as a parent disciplines their child to teach them right from wrong, God disciplines us to teach us His ways and to conform us to the image of Christ.

“How is discipline a blessing?” You may wonder. It’s a blessing because it shows us that God cares about us and wants to see us grow and mature in our faith. It’s a blessing because it helps us to develop perseverance, character, and hope. It shapes us to become individuals who carry the glory of God. Discipline doesn’t come without its own pain and sacrifice, but we must focus on the gain and the love God has for us. Remember, it’s a child who the Father loves that He disciplines. Shalom!

Charge: Be grateful for God’s discipline in your life. See it as a blessing rather than a burden.
