“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

Proverbs 15:1

Words have power—they possess both positive and negative impacts depending on how we use them. Reality is, people will hurt us, we will be faced with circumstances where people will speak harshly to us, and often as we know, our natural response is to react in the same manner. But our Scripture for today is calling us to a higher and better standard; it says a gentle answer changes everything.

We are to draw from God’s wisdom and speak with love. By doing this, we can diffuse danger, calm many storms and tense situations, and open the door for others to experience the love of God. Let us never forget that our response in words and deeds is an extension of Christ’s character.

As believers, we are expected to be peacemakers at home, in our offices, communities, associations, and even when preaching the Gospel to people. Some people’s response to you during evangelism can be annoying, but you mustn’t react but respond in love. Through this, you can win them to the fold of Christ.

Charge: Ask God for wisdom to respond with gentleness in difficult moments, and choose peace over conflicts.
