“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness.”

Isaiah 61:10

The enemy, known as the “accuser of the brethren,” seeks to hold God’s children captive through guilt whenever they commit sin. His deceitful aim is to rob believers of their joy in Christ Jesus and fill their minds with thoughts of past guilt and secret faults. Today’s devotional scripture exposes this strategy.

Zechariah 3:3-4 talks us about the story of Joshua, the High Priest, who stood before an angel, clothed in filthy garments. The angel commands that Joshua’s filthy garments be removed and replaced with clean ones, symbolizing God’s forgiveness and restoration. Our understanding of the finished works of Christ, who bore all our sins to pay the price of righteousness, should give us the boldness to always approach the throne of grace for God’s mercy.

Beloved, though we may fall into sin—whether consciously or unconsciously—the enemy has no right to accuse or afflict us. Grace has not been given for us to continue in sin, but rather to empower us to rise above it. Therefore, we can boldly and genuinely seek God’s forgiveness. He is ever willing to remove our filthy garments of sin and guilt, replacing them with the robe of righteousness in Christ Jesus.

Charge: There is no condemnation for those who live in union with Christ Jesus.
