“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

James 1:12

Think about Jesus after He fasted for 40 days; reflect on the questions He was asked and the responses He gave. You will notice that the testing period is a time meant to reveal whether you have learned from what you’ve been taught.

The purpose of testing isn’t to make you fail but to determine if your strength is small or if you are equipped for the tasks ahead. The Bible says, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10).

The first temptation, where Jesus was told to turn stones into bread, wasn’t solely about whether He was hungry—it was about demonstrating His perfect self-control, which was tested through His physical need in an attempt to hinder Him from fulfilling His purpose, and His understanding of God’s Word. No matter how much we study, practical tests are always more challenging. Yet, with the grace of God and the Holy Spirit within us, we can overcome these moments of testing and receive the crown of life.

Charge: Remain steadfast. The things the Lord has prepared for you make every trial and temptation worth it. Don’t lose hope!
