“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”

James 1:27

This is one the most powerful verses that beautifully captures the heart of the Christian faith— to care for the vulnerable while remaining pure in a challenging world. To care for the poor, we begin by seeing their needs with compassion as Jesus did. Caring isn’t just about financial help; it involves showing kindness, understanding, and respect to those who may feel forgotten.

Visiting and supporting people in need, like orphans, widows, and the impoverished, means taking time to listen, offering practical help, and extending friendship. We can take action by donating to charities, volunteering, or even lending our skills to serve those who lack resources. Small acts of kindness—a warm meal, a helping hand, or a word of encouragement—show God’s love in tangible ways.

As we care for others, we honor God and grow spiritually, aligning our lives with His heart for the poor and oppressed. True religion goes beyond words and rituals; it is seen in how we love, uplift, and protect those in need, embodying God’s compassion in our everyday actions.

Charge: Let us not withhold good when it is within our power to do.
