“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”
2 Peter 1:3
Today’s text reminds us of the incredible blessings that come from our faith in Christ’s finished work. All things have been granted to those who have passed from death to life and are now partakers of Christ’s divine nature.
As believers, we should lack nothing. However, though we have access to everything necessary for a life of impact and godliness, this access is only unlocked through the knowledge of Christ. Just as a father can give his child an inheritance, if the child doesn’t know how to claim or use it, they may live in frustration despite their wealth.
Similarly, many believers today struggle in life and godliness because they lack the understanding of how to appropriate the blessings already given. While all things that pertain to life and godliness are ours, it is through knowing Christ that we learn to receive and maximize these gifts. Intimacy with God, through the Word, brings this knowledge—Jesus being the very Word of God. It’s time for us to fully commit as students of the Word, where true sufficiency is found.
Charge: All things are graciously given through the knowledge of God. Seek Him and you shall find Him, now that He’s still near.
