“This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.”

Zephaniah 2:15

When you don’t have the consciousness of Christ in you, you are living a careless life. Such life is prideful, arrogant, boastful, leads herself, and lives life without Christ’s likeness.

These  groups of people are not different from the Assyrians that our scriptural text described. The Assyrians were living carelessly. But how was their end? God’s judgement came upon them. Assyria which was once a glorious city became desolate. It became a habitation for wild animals and beast. People hissed and laughed at her.

When you are living in Christ consciousness, by praying and studying the Bible, it will be hard to forget yourself and start living carelessly. Living carelessly also means lusting after the world and not residing under the protective umbrella of God. Such life becomes desolate like that of the Assyrians; like one that has lost all the glory of God.

When you make prayer, righteous living, and Bible study a lifestyle, you will be alert of your source which is ‘Christ’. Building a close relationship with the Holy Spirit through prayer and Bible study will help you focus on Christ, rather than living carelessly.

Further Study: Isaiah 47:8-15, Revelation 18:1-8, Lamentations 2.

Charge: I will live a careful and worthy life to please God.

Happy weekend, and live carefully.
