“And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.”
Jeremiah 45:5
In Jeremiah 45:5, we are reminded of the importance of our desires and aspirations in life. Often, we find ourselves chasing after success, recognition, and worldly achievements, believing that these things will bring fulfillment and satisfaction. Wanting to be successful in life is not a sin, however, the motives behind this is what matters most, and God’s word offers us a different perspective.
The verse begins with a question: “And seekest thou great things for thyself?” It prompts us to examine our motives and priorities. Are we constantly striving for greatness in the eyes of the world, seeking to elevate ourselves above God. Some see their achievements as a throphy just to show off.
God warns us against placing our focus and energy on earthly ambitions that distract us from His purpose for our lives. He reminds us that He alone is the source of true fulfillment and lasting joy.
