THE POTTER’S HANDMADE

“But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”

Isaiah 64:8

A potter is a skilled artist who creates pottery and other ceramic wares using clay—a versatile and pliable material with a fine-grained texture. It can be shaped when wet and then dried and fired to create pottery.

In a spiritual context, the analogy of the potter and the clay represents God as the Potter and individuals as the clay. Just as clay is shaped and molded by the potter, we are called to surrender ourselves to God’s guidance and allow Him to work in our lives.

Can we demonstrate the same level of submission as clay in the hands of the Potter, allowing God to shape us according to His divine plan? Can we be that soft- and pliable creation that the Potter can shape into use? Let us grant Him the freedom to determine the pattern our lives should follow and form us into honourable vessels by breaking, filling, and molding us.

In Jeremiah 18:4, it says, “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.” This verse highlights that even when a vessel created by the potter is flawed or damaged, the potter has the ability to reshape it into something beautiful.

Beloved, entrust your life to God and allow Him to shape you as He sees fit because He always has your best interests at heart. Let us strive to be as submissive as clay in the potter’s hands.

Remember, you are the potter’s unique creation. Do not underestimate the value of the potter’s work on you, and do not let it go to waste. Fulfill the purpose for which the Potter has made you, and embrace His calling over your life.

Prayer

I declare in the name of Jesus that, I am the Potter’s masterpiece, fulfilling the Lord’s calling in my life. I bring continuous pride to the Potter through my actions. Here I am, O Lord, mold and shape me according to Your will. I willingly conform to the pattern the Potter has designed for me through the help of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
