YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

 Matthew 4:1

Temptations are bound to come to a Christian, but what are the things that will ensure we sail through these temptations without falling?

The first thing is: “But He answered and said, “It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”‘ Matt. 4.4. Live by every word that come from God. As Christians, we must learn to apply the Word of God to our lives in all situations. For example, the Bible says to flee fornication. So, automatically we know what to do in the face of sexual temptations. When we know the Word of God, we know exactly what to do in situations that present themselves as alluring.

Another importance of knowing the Word of God is that you can discern what is right even in the times this Word is being used wrongly.

The second thing is: “Jesus said to him, “It is written again, “You shall not tempt the LORD your God.”‘Matt .4.7. Never do anything in a bid to get God to prove Himself. When things happen that require you to tell God something like, “Do this thing Lord, or else…” Or, something that requires you to use God as a tool to boost your pride”, please run from whatever that might be.

The third thing is: Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.”‘ Matt. 4.10. Put God (only God) at the center of all you do. Nothing is worth it if it will take you away from God. Nothing!

Dear Christians, the devil will surely come and try to sway us. It is our responsibility, therefore, to stand strong and gird ourselves with the knowledge of God’s word.

Prayer

  1. Lord, please give methestrength to stand strong in the face of temptations.
  2. Help me not to fall for simulations of what you are set to give me. Help me to wait only for you and that which you give, Lord.
  3. Please help the church to take you as priority in all areas.
