EDIFYING THE CHURCH

“How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.”

1 Corinthians 14:26

Have you discovered your gift? Is your gift used in bringing more people to Christ? In our today’s devotional, we see from 1 Corinthians 14:26 that Jesus Christ is admonishing us believers to use our different gifts to build up the church. In other words, we should let our songs, teaching, revelation, tongues and interpretations be used in establishing the church, making the church stronger and bringing up the church in unity and peace.

When using our gifts, it should be in line with God’s words, not in a worldly manner. For instance, saying you have a revelation concerning someone and then asking for money before you can deliver the message to the person. That’s not God’s standard.

How can edification be achieved? Firstly, our teaching should not condemn the unbelievers or make them feel uncomfortable. It should rather be done in love and encouragement.

And secondly, we should never use our gifts as a competition or means to show off; rather, it should be used to build and motivate one another, and also grow together to achieve peace and unity in the body of Christ.

Confession: I will use my gift to edify your church, oh Lord. So help me Lord. Amen.

Remain blessed.
