WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE LORD?

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it and is safe.”

Proverbs 18:10

Indeed, there is power in the name of Jesus. This is a name that is above every other name that had ever existed or will ever exist. Our opening text reminds us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower. This means that when we are in trouble, we can call upon this name. And because He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, we have access to Him anytime any day. It is not like human whom you can’t reach at a particular time of the day because they’re busy, sleeping, or you need permission.

Many reasons we suffer today is that we do not know the efficacy of that name. We doubt the power that the name of Jesus carries. We have turned the name of the Lord into an exclamation. At every little instance, we exclaim “Jesus!”, someone even say “Jeez!” We’ve been told not to call God name in vain.

Sometimes when we see Christian movies, we see how the actors display the power in the name of Jesus. Especially when attacked by a demon. Need I tell you that the name of Jesus is much more effective than that what is showcased on your TV screen. The actors only try to act out a tiny pinch of it but cannot give us the entire picture. Now, imagine you even utilise the name as depicted on the screen, do you know things might have gotten better for you. Perhaps, your situation might have changed.

The name of the availeth much. For we have been given a that’s above every other name, not to be called for fun or in vain or under-utilised, but “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11.

How have you been using the name of Jesus? What is the name of the Lord to you? Just a name, an exclamation,  English letters, or a STRONG TOWER?

Finally, Beloved, there is power in the name of Jesus—to break every chain, set captives free, grant you access to great places, heal your infirmities, forgive your sins, provide your needs, uplift you, save you and so on. Wow! What a name! Yet, we have failed to be recognised with this beautiful, powerful name. Even Christians today are ashamed to speak about this name, to testify of the goodness they’ve enjoyed through this name.

Don’t be an ungrateful child of the Most High. Rise up, proclaim the name and let the whole world know that the name of the Lord is a STRONG TOWER.

Prayer

Thank God for the beautiful name of Jesus. Thank Him for the sacrifices He made so that His name could pave ways for us. Ask Him to forgive you for not knowing the potency of the name. Ask Him to open your understanding and give you wisdom on how to begin to use the name effectively. In Jesus’ name, you’ve prayed. Amen.
