THE DYNAMIC LOVE OF GOD

“The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17

We have probably heard the phrase “God is love” a thousand times, but I wonder if we will ever fully understand what that truly entails. What comes to your mind when you hear “God is love”? His death on the cross? The life He has given us? The last prayer He answered or the miracle He performed in your life? All of these things are valid and part of the ways He expresses His love for us, but there are always more dimensions to the love of God.

There’s the love of the Father that scolds you when you err but smiles and holds you in the tightest embrace a few minutes later because while He does not want you to do wrong, He also wants you to know how much He loves you. There’s also the motherly love He gives—so kind, exceptional, and caring. He makes you feel like you are the most special treasure on earth. Then, there’s the love of a lover. The one that makes you feel safe, cherished, and accepted, and makes you dance in excitement. God can love. Sometimes, He takes the form of a friend who is concerned for you and wants to know how He can help you feel better. He comforts, gives you peace that passes all understanding, and you can almost see creases of concern as He looks upon you.

If you have a heart that’s yearning to know what it feels like to be loved, you should edge closer to the Father and let Him love you. Even if you have been loved all your life, come a little closer to Father and see how He shocks you with levels of love you hadn’t known existed. So, dear Christian, come closer; stop running. Instead, dwell in the secret place of the Most High. Let Him love you.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Prayer

1. Father, I ask that you draw me closer to yourself so I may know you.
2. Lord, I open myself up to be loved by you. As I receive your love, help me to love others.
