HOW TO ENJOY GOD’S LEADING

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you.”

Psalms 32:8-9

One thing we should never have to fret about is whether God will leave us to our own devices. He is willing and interested in leading us to our lands of milk and honey. He takes no pleasure in leaving us to ourselves or having us confused about what to do. But, there’s a condition.

God promised to guide us with His eyes but then proceeded to add a part we must fulfill. And that is the fact that we must never be like the horse who has to be forced to move. We must never allow our hearts to be so hardened that God can find not even one bit of willingness to do as He leads.

One thing we must know about God is that He does not like to force His will down our throats. He sees beyond us, and He knows how things will unfold. That is why He steers us accordingly, even though it makes no sense to us now.  But even though he sees what will happen, He cannot force us to do anything if we choose not to listen.

The superheroes of faith that we see enjoying God’s leading and the resulting blessings do not enjoy these because they are exceptional. Instead, they enjoy it because they have chosen to submit and follow, no matter what. What that means is you can also enjoy the instructions of God and its blessings only if you are ready to submit and obey no matter how hard the instructions seem. That willing and obedient heart is the only pathway that leads to more instructions and guidance.

If you have been disobedient, and are confused about where to start following God’s leading, start with the instructions in His word. Obey them and ask the Holy Spirit to soften your heart so that you might hear and understand the instructions He gives.

Prayer

  1. Father, I pray that you help me not to be mule-headed and stubborn regarding your instruction.
  2. Lord, I submit to you as my guide; lead me in the way I should go.
  3. I ask, Lord, for forgiveness for all the times I disobeyed that caused my ear to no longer hear your instructions. Forgive me, Lord, and open my ears to your words.
