“Salt is good; but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? “Have the salt of friendship among yourselves, and live in peace with one another.” Mark 9:50

Salt is one of the most important ingredients in every food. It helps in the preservation of food and adding flavor to it. But if the salt loses its saltness, it is of no value again.

Children of God are the salt of the world. In the scripture above, Jesus reminds us to have the salt of friendship amongst ourselves: those we love, those who love us, and even those who don’t have a good rapport with us. We are to have the characteristics of salt in us, which will help preserve, sweeten, and even season our relationship with others.

Just like salt sweetens our food, we should also sweeten this world that has been polluted with sin. With our actions and dispositions, we can sweeten the world around us.

In African culture, one of the things we use salt for is washing away preservative chemicals from food before we cook. Likewise, as the salt of the world, we Christians are to help others stay clean and unpolluted in Christ. We are not to mock them but to help them, not excluding those who call themselves our enemies.

Jesus also wants us to preserve our relationship with one another. That is why He said, “And have peace with one another.” No matter what a brother or sister does to hurt you, learn to exhibit your saltiness and have peace with him. Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

Finally, brethren, be reminded again that “You are like salt for the whole human race. But if the salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out, and people trample on it.” Matt.5:13. May we not lose our saltiness and be trampled upon in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer:

1) Pray that God helps you regain your saltiness as the salt of the world.

2) One of the things that make us lose our saltiness is sin. Ask the Lord to forgive you your sins and repent from them.

3) Pray that you are found worthy as a vessel to be used to preserve the body of Christ.

4) Pray for all ministers and the children of God that we are awoken to the fact that we are the salt of the world and do not disappoint God anymore.

God bless you.
