“For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.”

Ezra 7:10

Ezra’s life began with an internal decision. Before he taught anyone else, he first prepared his heart. This reveals something essential about spiritual maturity: destiny is not built in the spotlight, but in the quiet place of settled decisions before God.

A prepared heart is one that has been intentionally arranged—cleared of distraction, yielded in humility, and made ready to respond to God’s Word without resistance. Ezra did not stumble into purpose; he positioned himself for it.

But preparation was only the beginning. Ezra’s devotion moved in three deliberate directions: to seek, to do, and to teach. He did not separate knowledge from obedience. He sought God’s Word not as information, but as instruction for life. And what he received, he submitted himself to first.

Charge: Ezra models a wholeness of devotion: the Word was not only studied, it was embodied. Truth passed through his life before it passed through his lips.
