“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.”

Song of Solomon 8:6-7

This passage unveils the intensity and permanence of true love—a love that cannot be broken, silenced, or washed away. It is a picture of God’s love for us, ultimately revealed through Christ. “To be set as a seal” speaks of ownership, security, and permanence. God’s love is not temporary or conditional; it is engraved upon His heart toward us. In Christ, we are marked, chosen, and kept. His love does not fluctuate with our circumstances—it remains constant and sure.

“Love is strong as death” reminds us of the ultimate demonstration of this love. Jesus endured the cross, facing death itself, to secure our redemption. His love went to the deepest extent, proving that nothing could stand against it—not sin, not suffering, not even the grave.

“Many waters cannot quench love” reveals its unquenchable nature. No failure, no trial, no opposition can extinguish God’s love for His children. It cannot be bought, earned, or replaced—it is freely given, yet infinitely valuable. This is the secret of His love: it is relentless, sacrificial, and everlasting. When we truly grasp this, our response becomes surrender, devotion, and trust.

Charge: Rest in this truth today: You are deeply loved with a love that can never be quenched.
