“For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”
James 2:13
How many people do you think would be left on earth if the law “The soul that sin shall die” were swiftly carried out in our days, as it was in the past? Perhaps, the world will be at a standstill because we are all debtors to death. However, the blood of Jesus that speaketh better things (life) than the blood of Abel (vengeance) has covered up for the multitude of sin that’d have cost our life.
Having received this grace, so that we no longer live for ourselves but for Christ, how do we still have people whose only care is to mete out judgment upon those for whom Christ has died? To the same people is our text today redirected, that there shall be Judgement without mercy. But who then shall be saved if the world were to be judged by the standard of holiness which is of God? Never has there been a time before now to have obtained God’s mercy other than now.
Mercy has not only brought us face-to-face with God, but also has made our dwelling place secure with God, forever, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Mercy is the relaxation of the law, translated from a forceful blind service, into a service of freedom permeated through our spirit. Mercy is the inner witness, the infilling of the Holy Spirit that lets us into the mind of God per season.
Charge: Mercy is the reward given on account of the death of God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be a joint heir, freely, only by believing in the finished work of Christ. What triumph and glory it is to be called a child of God.
