“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”

Genesis 1:3-4

Imagine a young woman living in a small, dimly lit apartment, struggling to get her small business off the ground. Every day, she fumbles in the darkness, unsure which steps to take, which clients to trust, or which ideas will bear fruit. Then one morning, she remembers a simple principle: even the tiniest spark can illuminate the darkest room. She lights a small lamp, and suddenly the room is alive with light; she can see her tools, her plans, and the way forward clearly.

Just as light revealed order in her apartment, God’s spoken word brought light into the formless void of creation, bringing clarity, direction, and life where there was none. God’s word brings light into our confusion and darkness. When we feel lost, uncertain, or overwhelmed by circumstances, God’s voice (His instructions, promises, and guidance) pierces the gloom.

Just as God separated light from darkness in Genesis 1:3-4, He can help us distinguish what is right from wrong, hope from despair, and purpose from distraction. Trusting His word allows us to step confidently forward, even when the path seems uncertain.

Charge: Patience, faith, and attentiveness to His voice will enable us to recognise the light He brings, act on it, and experience the beauty of His order and provision in our daily lives.
