“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.”
John 21:18
Look around you: don’t you see elderly people being aided to walk and cared for? They were once young and full of passion just like you. However, they are now relying on others to do things that they were once capable of doing by themselves. These stages of life perfectly illustrated the Christian walk.
The Christian journey begins with surrender but matures through obedience. In youth, whether physical or spiritual, we often act from passion and independence. We make our plans, choose our paths, and expect God to follow. But as we grow in grace, we come to realise that true discipleship is not doing for Christ what we want, but allowing Christ to do through us what He wills.
To do Christ’s bidding is to go where He sends, speak what He commands, and yield even when the path seems hard. It is to trust His purpose when ours must die. This is not bondage; it is blessed surrender. For in yielding to Christ’s will, we find the truest form of freedom.
Charge: Yield yourself to God’s bidding now and be free. Night cometh when no man shall work.
