“Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.”

Isaiah 12:5

Today’s verse is a call to worship and proclamation. It reminds us that God’s works are so marvellous that they deserve to be sung about and shared globally. Thanking God for His power, mercy and salvation for us is both personal and public. It is both an expression from each of us to Him and a declaration to all who hear us that He is great.

We are not to hide our joy of salvation; that is what God intends for us. Through the Scriptures, we read how God’s people respond to His victory over the earth and the comfort He gives to them. They express heartfelt thanks and acknowledge that God has always been good to them.

A particular story that resonates is that of the mentally unstable man of Gadarene. Jesus crossed over through the raging storms to deliver this man from demons. After the deliverance, the man decided to be with Jesus but was instructed by him to go and proclaim God’s deeds.

Charge: Just as Moses and the Israelites sang a song of praise to God for the deliverance from the Egyptian bondage, songs of salvation and deliverance give praises to God and also tell others of Him and all that He has done for us.
