“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”
Psalm 119:9
How many of us still remember how our parents often warned us about rough play? We were always told not to play roughly. Those who refuse to listen often suffer the consequences of not listening. Some of us didn’t even take their words seriously, while those who did were eventually glad they did.
In the same way, our parents’ words were helpful, so it is with the word of God. It is a living shield, a divine guardrail, and a lamp that keeps our steps from wandering into darkness. God’s Word remains unchanging. When you store it in your heart, it becomes a voice in your mind, guiding decisions, filtering thoughts, and keeping your soul clean before God.
In our opening Scripture, the psalmist asks a question that every believer, young or old, must answer: How can a life remain pure in a world so full of corruption? The answer is simple, yet powerful—by taking heed to God’s Word.
Charge: Today, let the Word guard you. Read and meditate on it.
