“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?”
Matthew 16:13
In today’s verse, Jesus posed a question to His disciples. Their responses revealed the various perceptions and expectations that people had about Him. Some believed He was John the Baptist, others thought He was Elijah, while a few identified Him as Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
These perceptions show that people viewed Jesus as a significant figure, but they didn’t fully understand His true identity. They saw Him through the lens of their expectations and understanding of prophetic figures.
