“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:7
In Exodus 35, we see Moses issue a command to the Israelites from God. And you find in verse 5 that he says “whomever is of a willing heart.” As Christians, we must never give because we were forced to, or because we think we will get something back in exchange, or because we want to look a certain way in the eyes of men.
When we do that, the components that God requires when we give are missing. He wants us to give, but with a heart that is willing. He wants us to be cheerful and never have the mindset of getting back in return. And, it is very possible to give that which costs you, that which is honouring to the Lord, and do it from a willing heart.
Nothing should stop the believer from giving, but we should not give foolishly. And when we find that our hearts are not willing, we must realise that it is such a serious matter— it must be taken to God and ask the Lord for the grace to give and to have a willing heart when giving.
Charge: It is important that we give.

Thank you. It is important that we give willingly and cheerfully; it is more blessed that way.
