“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.”
Galatians 5:22
One evidence of genuine Christian living is that our lives begin to bear fruit. Just like the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22, these fruits are proof of the Spirit of Christ working within us. While the Spirit upon us produces gifts for service and ministry to others, the Spirit within us produces fragrances that clearly show we have been with Him.
This is one of the major distinguishing attributes of a believer from an unbeliever. For instance, Romans 5:5 teaches that the love of God is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Therefore, a person cannot truly love unless enabled by the Holy Spirit.
The fruit of the Spirit is the Holy Spirit Himself working in us in different clusters, manifesting as love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. The fruit is not something we produce by our own determination, but the Holy Spirit is its source. Therefore, there is no good in us outside of the Spirit. The good we display is the result of the fruit of the Spirit within us, produced by the Holy Spirit.
Confession: I bear fruit by the Holy Spirit who dwells in me. Amen.
