“Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel.”
2 Kings 17:34
It is unfortunate when people whom God has called out choose to live their lives as though they have not been delivered. The children of Israel even though they have been called out and given a new nam, still chose to hold onto the former things. They confessed God with their lips while their hearts were far away from Him.
This reality of holding onto former things and ways of life is common with the average Christian out there. We claim we love the Lord: our lips confess a thing but our works show we are not given to Jesus. Sometimes, we want to serve God on one hand and also serve ourselves or idols (world affections)on the other.
There is, therefore, a need for repentance and we must begin to live and do things after the manner of the laws and commandments of God. God does not want you to fear Him out of an unholy fear but rather out of reverence for who HE is. Having understood reverence which is fear of the Lord, the love for God can spring out of us.
Charge: Choose from today to reverence and love the Lord all your life.
