“Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.”

Proverbs 15:21

The verse above shows to us clearly that a sinner is indeed not wise, and for that reason alone, he continues to dwell in sin. He thinks that everything is well with him simply because of momentary pleasure and never considers the following pain and destruction.

While it is true that there is pleasure in sin, we must not forget what the Bible says about it: “He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin” (NIV). As believers, we need to remind ourselves that the pleasure in sin only has one destination known as death. This is why the Bible says that the wages of sin is death.

A sinner dwells perpetually in sin because of a lack of wisdom—which is gotten from the fear of the Lord. So, ultimately, a man who does not fear the Lord cannot depart from sin no matter how hard he tries to. This not only reveals the dilemma of a sinner but also reveals to us that there is  grace to live above sin which the upright man enjoys. This kind of grace can only come to a sinner when they choose to fear the Lord.

Charge: Repent today, and ask Jesus to forgive your sins. Be intentional about living holy as you ask the Holy Spirit to be your guardian.
