“The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.”
Acts 16:17
This is an account of how Paul and Silas were followed by a slave girl who made a true declaration but not necessarily a declaration of truth because she acted by another spirit and not the Spirit of God. Paul could discern that she had not the Spirit of Truth in her, and therefore, commanded the spirit out of her.
Today, we live in a time when many voices are speaking and a vast amount of knowledge is out there, that we cannot afford to be led by any spirit other than the Spirit of God. Therefore, this scripture becomes a great lesson to us, and it is of essence that believers are strongly rooted in the Word of God and never do anything except inspired by the Holy Spirit.
We must be alert like Paul at all times to perceive the spirit behind the sayings and doings of people or associations and not just believe what they say or do because there’s a fact backing it up. This is important because not every true statement is a statement of truth, but every statement of Truth is a true statement.
Charge: Do not believe every spirit until you have tested them to see they are from God.
