DEALING WITH GRIEF WHEN A SAINT GOES HOME

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13

We cannot deny the reality of the pain of losing a loved one. So, grieving and mourning is a natural thing to do in the face of such a loss. The Bible tells us to mourn with those who mourn; so, it’s completely normal to hurt. Afterall, emotions are part of who we are as humans.

Although we mourn, we don’t mourn like those without hope. Believers don’t die. When a saint passes, he or she has gone home for her reward. And we know that we’ll see them again at the resurrection—this is our hope and consolation as new testament believers.

God already assured us of His comfort to help us go through such difficult times.
Therefore, we should allow the Holy Spirit to comfort our hearts because there is no greater assurance than knowing that our loved one is already with the Lord. Keeping this in mind will help us deal with the pain and grief that comes when a saint goes home.

Charge: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.
