“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”
Nahum 1:7
What does a stronghold mean? It means a place of refuge, survival, or domination. It is interesting to know that our Lord is a stronghold for us in the day of trouble. We can always resort to the Lord for divine protection during perilous times.
There are three keynotes we need to study in our devotional scripture for today. Firstly, God is our refuge, that is, we can turn to Him for safety or assistance. Remember Daniel in the lion’s den, God kept and delivered him from the lions as well as his enemies.
Secondly, it’s only in God we can survive or continue our existence in life. He is the source of all living, and without Him, we have no life of our own. The Israelites survived 40 years in the wilderness because God sustained them.
Finally, in God, we exercise power in ruling, dominion, supremacy, and authority. David’s understanding of this benefit earned him great victory over Goliath, the boastful giant. Beloved, now you know that you can enjoy God’s safety and assistance at all times. You can also experience all-round victories because the Lord is your stronghold. May the Lord’s goodness overshadow us and preserve our lives in Jesus’ name. Amen
