“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, And his ears are open unto their prayers: But the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
1 Peter 3:12
Hebrew 10:31 states that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. And in our verse today, it states that the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
This is frightening to think about, and it is especially frightening when we think of the world we live in today, and all the evil that is so blatantly done. May we never know what it means for God Himself to be against us.
However, it is not just a warning to the unrighteous ones. The believers must also constantly walk in the fear of God, understanding that they cannot take God for granted, but they are to revere Him.
True righteousness is the fear of the Lord. Therefore, the only way to be righteous in such a way that the eyes of the Lord are over you and His ears are open to your prayers is to fear God.
It is the fear of God that helps you keep His commandments. And keeping His commandments is how you show you love the Lord. The fear of the Lord keeps you in reverential and immediate obedience to His Word. The fear of the Lord is indeed the beginning of wisdom.
