“And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.”
Mark 4:16-17
It’s one thing to receive the Word of God gladly, and it’s quite another for that Word to be rooted in you.
When the Holy Spirit brings light to God’s Word, it can lead to joy and an expectation of its manifestation. Especially when it is a revealing of the wonderful things to come. However, the true proof that the Word is rooted in you is not the initial delight that you express, but your response when that Word is tested.
It’s so easy to claim the promises of Abraham because they sound so beautiful; however, many of us forget that the promise did not immediately manifest, and He had to trust God consistently until there was a manifestation.
Let patience have it’s perfect work, so the Word is deeply rooted and not easily shaken by circumstance. It is the Word of God that will be your defense in times you are worn out. It is the Word of God that will be your guide when you’re tempted and don’t know what to do. This is the same Word that will be your weapon at the enemy’s battleground.
Hence, it is compulsory, rather than an option for the Word to be rooted in a believers heart. And being rooted doesn’t mean that the Word will be crammed. No! It simply means that you know the Word and carry its power in you.
